Kellogg recently (and voluntarily) recalled select batches of Fruit Loops, Honey Smacks, Apple Jacks, and Corn Pops due to a reported “off” smell and taste from the package’s inner lining.

There doesn’t seem to be any major health concerns although some customer’s have reported temporary bouts of nausea and diarrhea.

J. Adaire Putnam, a company spokeswoman, told Businessweek that they have “identified a substance in the package liner that can produce an uncharacteristic wax-like off taste and smell,” and that their “chemistry team is working to isolate the exact substance.”

Personally, I’d tell them to stop eating the package lining. I don’t think it takes a chemistry team to figure out that the wax-like taste and smell might just be the wax paper lining. But what do I know. I’m not a chemist and I can’t smell.
