I don’t get this question a lot, but it is a topic that usually some of my more daring friends eventually ask. And the answer is…
I don’t know if I can wear something twice. The sniff test?! Please, even if I could smell I’m not sure I’d trust that one. So, in general, I don’t re-wear anything. And for those occasions when clean piles get confused with dirty ones (which can happen when your loving spouse shares those tedious domestic duties), I ere on the side of caution (I’m pretty sure I’ve ended up washing something twice). Which is one reason why I spent this past Friday night (and Saturday and Sunday) doing laundry.

I give my clothes to my dogs to smell if I’m unsure. If they seem really interested, I don’t wear it (it smells!) if they kind of sniff and turn away, it’s ok! If all else fails, I ask my poor husband to sniff for me!

Let me be the first to say, “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” A smelling nose dog!
Wait, but aren’t dogs attracted to things that are smelly?

Yes, they are…that’s why if they seem really interested it goes in the wash until next time.
Hey….if there are seeing eye dogs, why not smelling nose dogs! Imagine a dog letting you know when there’s a gas leak! Not a bad idea! :-)

Actually, a woman in New Jersey is working on it…smelling nose dogs, I mean. I can’t wait! In the meantime, I just use my husband’s nose.

This is hilarious! I thought I was pretty careful about how often I wear clothes, but I definitely re-wear most things — however, I must admit I can be pretty bad for wearing three different outfits over the course of one day, and there’s no way I am going to do all that laundry. I have a chair in my room that I put “questionable” items on and then try to make a call later on. I used to ask my ex to “smell-sort” the clothes on the chair every so often, which he didn’t mind. I have been pretty lucky in this particular aspect of scentless life. Growing up my mother would perform the smell sorting task, as well as the duty of sniffing me before I left the house, in university I ended up with a roommate who had a father who couldn’t smell and was thus used to doing the same. Now I have come to have a pretty good idea of how much time I can wear something before it needs to be washed.

I tend to not wear things for more than one day…I do a lot of walking up hills for exercise, and get pretty sweaty. So after a walk, the whole lot goes in the wash. It’s something that’s a constant worry to me…hoping I don’t smell after say a day out on a hot sunny day, just generally doing day to day stuff. I try not to stand too close to anyone, just in case. lol.
