I have no idea if this has anything to do with not being able to smell or not, but often I just plain forget to eat. Take today for example. I’m sitting in my office, working, trying to solve problems, etc. and having one of those mega-focussed days. Well, it’s almost three o’clock and I’m just now eating.
This doesn’t just happen at work though. Sometimes in the evening, I’ll get into cleaning, or reading, or surfing the web and dinnertime will simply fly by without notice. And the frequency of forgetting to eat skyrockets whenever my husband goes out of town.
I think I’m beginning to figure out why I was so skinny when I was single. I just didn’t have a person around to remind me to eat.
So, I’m wondering…how often is remembering to eat tied to smell? Am I the only anosmic who forgets to eat? Do olfies also forget to eat? I’m curious.

You aren’t alone. I tend to skip meals all the time when I am busy. I just simply forget to eat. I was super skinny throughout high school and college because I was just too busy to remember that it was time for lunch or something. It wasn’t until I started teaching that I started gaining “womanly” weight. Since I had the summers off, I generally ate as I should have. During the school year, I lose weight like crazy because I often skip breakfast and lunch.
Don’t fret it, though. The latest studies show in lab rats that regular fasting prolongs life…by years. You might outlive us all if you skip meals a few times a week!

I’m the opposite. I love food and I love to eat. I get super grumpy if I don’t eat regularly. I also discovered I’m a stress eater; I have to be make a consious effort to practice self control, ESPECIALLY when stressed. The interesting thing is I CANT smell. Since they say that smell enhances taste, I would be in sooo much trouble if I could!
