I get this question a lot, and the answer, surprisingly enough is…I’m not sure…maybe. I don’t know if the sensation I’m feeling is a “smell” or simply a change in temperature or just the chemical eating away at my inner nostrils, but bleach is one odor that I can detect. That is, in very high and from what I’m told “dangerous” quantities.
The thing is, I can also taste bleach in the air (yes, kind of like a snake) and I can also feel a burning sensation in my eyes whenever around bleach. And those two sensations are almost always stronger than whatever it is I’m feeling in my nose. So, I’m not sure if what I’m feeling is actually a smell or a side-effect from the stinging I feel elsewhere.
So, the answer if I’m feeling in the mood to explain all of that is…yes.
If not in the mood, I simply say “no, I can’t smell a thing stupid.”

oh yeah-I totally get it!! I smelled a rose once. I think so anyway. Heaven never smelled so good!!(or did it?) it was sweet and smooth and pink and the back of my throat was filled with it(after several long draws through the nose with hands cupped around the blossom) My husband had told me it was a REALLY strong scent-was filling the whole house-so I tried-I always try. Just in case. Took me several minutes of deep sniffing with my nose buried in the flower’s center and my hands cupped around it and my nose. I will cherish the memory forever. But yeah-mostly when asked-nothing-not even….and don’t you love it when they ask-well can you TASTE? I always think-“Let’s see I just told you I have never been able to smell…Now how would I know?-STUPID!” lol

Yeah!! I know exactly what you mean! That is about the only thing that I can sense also. I am not sure if I am actually “smelling” it, but i can feel it burning in my nose type of thing where my eyes water and burn and I can taste it too! It sounds so crazy to people that do not have this condition but I assure you, I am in the same boat.
